Republicans have a long history of being against Communism. Unfortunately, they incorrectly identify all social programs as being elements of Communism. Nevertheless, Republicans have tried to kill Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, and a long list of welfare programs. Never mind that European democracies have thrived as welfare states. Republicans want these programs gone.
As these programs have grown, they have become extremely popular to the point that killing these programs amounts to political suicide. If they really want to eliminate these programs, what can Republicans do?
Republicans have decided as a group that the end of these so-called welfare-state programs can only be accomplished under a Fascist dictatorship, and Donald Trump, with the Heritage Foundation’s recipe, is carrying out the GOP mission as I write this.
This sounds like wild speculation, until you count the number of Republicans in Washington who are willing to impeach Trump and any successor who continues Trump’s policies. Next to none. Contrast this to the number of Republicans who supported Nixon’s pending impeachment in 1972.
