The US has some very real labor shortages that will hurt our economy in the long run, because they will become an impediment to economic growth.  There are labor shortages in software and tech industries, shortages in agriculture and farming, and shortages in construction.  These shortages would help explain recent inflationary pressures on the price of food and housing.

Another interesting factor is the US fertility rate.  The US is not producing enough children to grow our population.  In fact, the population could shrink, leading to even more shortages and higher prices on food and housing.  Economic health in the US depends on more people.

All of these real economic problems lead to the question:  Why is the Trump Administration so anxious to deport millions of working immigrants that fill jobs in agriculture and construction, and also make contribution to our tech industries?  And why is the Trump Administration so anxious to prevent foreign students from attending our universities and colleges and maybe choose to work in the US?

Why would the Trump Administration invent a fake DEI emergency to justify these actions?  Diversity, equity, and inclusion programs apply to all minorities, including immigrants and citizens.  The Trump Administration uses DEI as a distraction from the real harm they do to immigrants, foreign students and our economy.

This all leads to the question that is the most puzzling.  The Trump Administration is considering a $5,000 baby bonus to encourage population growth.  Why would $5,000 be adequate for a new baby when the government has provided as much for a new heat pump or a new EV or a new solar panel system?
