Iran claims that its Uranium enrichment program is for peaceful purposes only, but Iran’s enrichment of Uranium to 60% isn’t consistent with the 3 – 5% enrichment needed for nuclear reactors used to generate electric power.  Iran is still not ready to make nuclear weapons, but it seems they are trying.

Things were different during the period when Barack Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran was in effect.  Iran complied with the agreement and maintained Uranium enrichment levels appropriate for peaceful purposes.  But Iran increased Uranium enrichment levels after Donald Trump pulled the US out of the deal in 2018.

Even though Hamas is still active in Gaza, Benjamin Netanyahu has expanded his focus to Hamas’s chief supporter, Iran.  One of Netanyahu’s apparent objectives is the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, and Netanyahu was most likely unsuccessful.  Enter Donald Trump with stealth bombers and bigger bunker busters. While Trump brags about his success in neutralizing Iran’s nuclear program, independent critics say that the evidence indicates otherwise.  Iran’s nuclear program is damaged, but apparently, it is far from destroyed.

And there are two very serious concern.  There is some pretty substantial evidence that Iran moved its highly enriched Uranium before the attack.  First, did Iran have advanced warning or was Iran reacting to previous Israeli air strikes?  We can only guess.  And second, will Iran use this latest attack to justify an even more focused nuclear enrichment program in deeper and safer bunkers somewhere in Iran?  I hope we don’t find out the hard way.
