North has 8 HCP, more than the minimum 5 HCP needed to respond. With a 6-card ♠ suit, North can bid 3 ♠.

2. What is South’s response to North’s bid?

Pass3 NT4 ♠4 NT

South has a 3-card ♠ suit, so South can support North’s 3 ♠ bid. North’s bid indicates good game potential. South should bid 4 ♠.

The next 3 questions refer to Jacoby transfers and use the same hands as the previous 2 questions.

3. What is North’s response to South’s 2 NT bid?

8. What is North’s response to South’s bid?

Pass3 3 ♠3 NT

North has enough HCP to make a game bid. South’s bid showed no 4-card major suit. Without a suit fit, North should bid 3 NT.
