1. What is North’s opening bid?

North has 10 HCP and 14 points. North has 5-card suit and a 6-card suit, so bid the major suit. With 14 points, bid 1 .

 

2. What is South’s response?

2 ♣2 2 1 ♠

South has 15 HCP and 16 points. With 2 5-card suits, bid the higher-ranking suit. With 16 points, bid 1 ♠.

 

3. How should North answer South?

3 ♣2 2 2 ♠

North doesn’t have 4-card support for ♠, and South is not promising 3-card support in . South bid a new suit, so North must bid. North doesn’t have 6 ♠, but has a 6-card suit. Bid 2 .

 

4. How should South answer North?

3 ♣3 2 ♠3 NT

South has 15 points and another suit. South could bid either 3 ♣ or 3 NT. With only 2 suits, 3 ♣ is preferred.

 

5. How should North answer South?

By bidding a new suit at the 3-level. South is showing a solid hand with more than opening points. North should show the 6-card suit. Bid 3 .

 

6. How should South answer North?

South has 2-card support for North’s 6-card suit and enough points for a minor-suit game. Bid 5 .
